Todd Ferris Mosby - Composer, Guitarist, Author, Educator

Todd Ferris Mosby is an innovative guitarist, composer, author and educator who specializes in Classical North Indian music and Traditional Jazz. He is the only guitarist to become a distinguished member of the famed Imdad Khani Gharana, India’s first family of sitar musicians. Mosby is one of the few composer/improvisors to cross the East West music line.

With his mentor of twelve years, Ustadt Imrat Khan, Mosby studied the finest aspects of Classical North Indian Raga music, performance, history and philosophy and had his guitar technique redesigned to that of a sitarist. Three years later, the Imrat Guitar, a 20-stringed hybrid sitar/guitar, was created for him by Imrat Khan to Mosby’s personalized specifications. This allowed access the highest levels of North Indian Rag thru the pulling of the mead and use of the sympathetic strings. Mosby also studied composition and improvisation at Berklee College of Music.

Today he presents concerts that bring Classical North Indian, Classical European, Traditional Jazz and Guitar aficionado audiences together in an exciting new format rooted in the classical traditions of both cultures. Exciting performances capture people of all ages, backgrounds, influence and genre with solo and ensemble performances. His concerts create an intimate, warm, inviting space rooted in ancient culture while still remaining contemporary. He fuses the highest aspects of Classical North Indian Music, Traditional Jazz and Classical Composition in concerts.

Mosby composes new music for the Imrat Guitar which brings the highest aspects of Indian rag, American Jazz and Guitar to concert audiences. He hopes to bring a higher understanding of East / West improvisational music through lectures, demonstrations, master classes and writings.
