Tickets are $25 available the night of the performance. The concert is a production of Community Alternatives, Inc.
Community Alternatives Inc. is a 501(c) (3) serving the severely mentally ill who are unable to receive mental health services. This particular event is being held to raise awareness of those homeless victims who die from untreated and unrecognized heart disease due to a lack of health insurance or health care.
Imrat Khan’s influence in western pop music began as the first sitar teacher of Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones and George Harrison of the Beatles. He was also a major influence in the music of John Mclaughlin & Zakir Hussain for the group Shakti.
The concert itself is an unique opportunity to hear the senior member of the greatest musical clan in India perform and present his new invention the Imrat Guitar which will be performed by Todd Ferris Mosby. Mosby is currently the only guitarist trained to perform on this instrument. For 12 years they have been developing and refining the sound quality and technique needed to master this most amazing instrument. Imrat says the Imrat Guitar sounds better than a Sitar and better than a Guitar. Mosby has been Imrat’s private student during this 12 year development period. The culmination of this study has led to research and development of functional hybrid instruments such as the acoustic Imrat Guitar and an electric Imrat Guitar. As an Indian/Jazz Guitar virtuoso, Mosby is one of the few if not only guitarist to cross the line of eastern/western music in such depth. The Imrat Guitar serves as a unique bridge instrument allowing western musicians access eastern music and eastern music to access western music.
For over 500 years Imrat’s family has been at the forefront of innovative Sitar design and performance technique. They are regarded as the keepers of India's musical flame. They have held the records of this ancient music not only for India but for the world.
